“The world needs needs Roads & Kingdoms. It needs this book.”
— Anthony Bourdain
In 2012, I helped launch Roads & Kingdoms. The rest of the team did all the hard work: they published the best food/travel/culture writing, they won awards to back up that statement, they brought on Anthony Bourdain as a partner and investor, and now they’re releasing their first book with HarperCollins.
I’m still trying to figure out how the hell Douglas Hughmanick found the time to design every stunning page of this book — in between buying a house, having his first child and growing a successful design agency. Doug, whatever unholy scheme you’re taking part in to obtain unlimited energy… I want in.
Doug told me this quality establishment in downtown San Jose closed down since I moved away. But I knew in my heart that a purveyor of pizza, faxes and key duplication could forever flourish. You really can have it all.

I’m gonna seriously try to be this artist thing.
For fucking real. Let’s be successful together.

I love it! The new generation is on their way. I’ve been deep in the design business since I was 17. After a stretch at a full-blown agency, I’m weeks away from reaching 4 years without a 9-to-5 job. My friend & frequent collaborator, Doug Hughmanick is earning his 1-year-freelancing chip soon after that. But it all started with the decision to turn a passion & interest into a career. I’m excited to see another friend start their journey.
Who’s next?
